Music
Degree - Your Journey Begins Here
It is often asked why anyone would want to choose music as a
college major. Is it really possible to make a living
playing an instrument anymore? Other than teaching music, is
there really any practical use for such a thing?
A music education can frequently mean much more. Many
schools provide a broader Liberal Arts degree, which in turn
qualifies them for a variety of music and non music careers
- from music retail and performance, to radio, banking,
insurance, and more.
It's also important to understand that A degree such as a
Bachelor of Arts in music qualifies an individual for many
careers within music itself. Of course, there is music
performance and education, but how about music therapy,
administration, software development, record production,
film music editing, and more. The sky is virtually the limit
when it comes to choosing your path in the field of music.
The Simple fact of the matter
is, Music students thrive in the college atmosphere. A
recent study suggested that music majors placed among the
highest reading scores in all majors such as English, The
Sciences, and Mathematics. Another published article
indicated that that music majors were most successful in
being admitted to medical school.
In closing, we feel a quote from Author Anthony Storr says
it best -
"Although
music is not a belief system, I think that its importance
and its appeal also depend upon its being a way of ordering
human experience. Music exalts life, enhances life, and
gives it meaning. Great music outlives the individual who
created it. It is both personal and beyond the personal.
For those who love it, it remains as a fixed point of
reference in an unpredictable world. Music is a source of
reconciliation, exhilaration, and hope which never fails."
